Electronic Range Select
Automatic transmissions feature Electronic Range Select, which allows the driver to manually limit the highest available transmission gear, thereby allowing manual up-shifts and downshifts based on road speed and engine speed.
Tow/Haul Mode
Another automatic transmission feature, Tow/Haul Mode improves vehicle performance and efficiency while minimizing engine noise during trailer towing or heavy-load hauling. When Tow/Haul mode is selected, a revised shift schedule is used to provide more power and reduce transmission shift changes and "gear hunting."

Gross Axle Weight Ratings
2012 Ram Chassis Cab trucks feature rear axles with standard limited-slip differentials that have been built for competitive load carrying capability and durability. Ram 4500 and Ram 5500 models utilize a Dana Spicer® S111 series single-drive axle that provides a higher rear GAWR. Five axle ratios are available for you to choose from.
Trailer harness connector
The seven-pin trailer harness connector, standard on all Ram Chassis Cab models, eliminates dangling wires and makes it easier to connect your trailer.

Upfitting
Designed to be customized.
Ram Chassis Cab frames are engineered to make upfitting easy — without the extensive modifications other trucks need. The 2012 Ram models feature the same proven, flat frame rail that’ll work with your current upfit. They also feature smart electrical provisions that simplify upfit wiring, an available midship fuel tank, and a Diesel Exhaust Fluid tank that’s situated away from upfit zones. These valuable details means your custom build will be ready to work for you faster.
Built-In Upfitter Switches
Four upfitter switches are integrated into the instrument panel, making it easy to control accessories and eliminating the need to install extra switches in the cabin. Each switch is capable of running 40-amp loads using 12-gauge wires (continuous) and a dedicated under-hood Power Distribution Center.
Power Takeoff Capability
A Power Takeoff (PTO) unit is an available gearbox that attaches to the side of the transmission to power upfits like dump bodies, aerial buckets and other tandem pump-powered accessories. Ram Chassis Cabs boast an impressive available PTO capacity of 35 horsepower and 135 lb-ft of torque. It features a locking torque converter and programmable set speed for convenience and safety.

Ram Chassis Cab trucks feature a standard 52-gallon fuel tank, giving them Best-in-Class standard single fuel tank capacity+ and a serious long distance range between fill-ups. An auxiliary fuel port provides easy connections for auxiliary fuel-driven power sources. The available 22-gallon midship auxiliary tank better accommodates rollback carrier upfits.
Jobsite Idling
The Cummins® Turbo Diesel engine is the only diesel engine that meets stringent Air Resource Board emissions standards for all 50 states. That means your truck is allowed to idle indefinitely at a jobsite while you take advantage of its HVAC and electrical features. The competition can't say the same.

Integrated Trailer Brake Controller
The available integrated Trailer Brake Controller allows you to automatically or manually activate the electronic or hydraulic brakes on properly equipped trailers for greater stopping power on downhill grades. The controller and status display are mounted on the dashboard and include a control lever that can activate the trailer brakes independent of the truck's brakes.
